Fissure Treatment

An anal fissure is a small tear in the lining of the anus, often caused by passing hard stools, constipation, or prolonged diarrhea. It can cause sharp pain, bleeding during bowel movements, and discomfort. Fissures are common and typically treatable with a combination of non-surgical and, if needed, surgical approaches.

1. Diagnosis Services

  • Physical Examination: A visual inspection of the anal area to detect the tear.

  • Digital Rectal Exam (DRE): Sometimes done gently to assess the extent.

  • Anoscopy: A small scope is used to inspect the anal canal, especially in chronic cases.

2. Non-Surgical (Conservative) Treatment

Best for acute (recent) fissures:

Medication

  • Topical ointments:

    • Nitroglycerin or Diltiazem creams: To relax the anal sphincter and improve blood flow.

    • Lidocaine: For local pain relief.

  • Stool softeners or laxatives: To ease bowel movements.

  • Painkillers: NSAIDs like ibuprofen for pain and inflammation.

Lifestyle & Home Care

  • High-fiber diet: Whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to prevent constipation.

  • Increased water intake

  • Sitz baths: Soaking the anal area in warm water 2–3 times daily to promote healing and reduce pain.

  • Regular physical activity

3. Minimally Invasive and Surgical Options

For chronic fissures (lasting more than 6 weeks) or if non-surgical treatments fail:

Botox Injection

  • Relaxes the anal muscles to allow healing.

  • Quick, outpatient procedure.

  • Effective for patients not ready for surgery.

Lateral Internal Sphincterotomy (LIS)

  • Gold standard surgical treatment for chronic fissure.

  • A small portion of the anal sphincter muscle is cut to reduce spasm and pain.

  • Very high success rate with low recurrence.

  • Daycare procedure with short recovery time.

Laser Surgery

  • A precise, painless, and minimally invasive procedure.

  • Less bleeding, quicker healing, and same-day discharge.

  • Suitable for chronic fissures or when combined with piles/fistula.

4. Post-Treatment Services

  • Follow-up visits to ensure healing.

  • Pain management and stool regulation

  • Dietary guidance for long-term bowel health.

  • Wound care support (if surgery is done)

  • Hygiene counseling

5. Additional Hospital Services

  • Same-day laser treatment packages

  • Insurance claim support

  • Online consultation & prescription services

  • Private patient rooms (optional)

  • Emergency care for bleeding or severe pain
